Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Manager to join our growing Forestry team, playing a pivotal role in the delivery and development of woodland services across the North of England.

This is a senior, influential position with real scope to shape the future of the region’s forestry offering. Working closely with the Head of Forestry, you will help drive commercial performance, deliver against financial targets, and lead high‑quality forestry and arboricultural management across a diverse estate portfolio.  Based from our Newcastle office, you will inspire, mentor and lead a talented regional team while building strong relationships with clients, colleagues and industry partners. The role offers a broad and rewarding mix of strategic leadership, technical expertise and business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the regional forestry business, contributing to strategic and commercial objectives
  • Drive business development, client relationships and market presence across the North
  • Take responsibility for budgets and financial performance, ensuring delivery against targets
  • Line manage, mentor and develop colleagues across regional offices
  • Oversee the preparation and delivery of Woodland Management Plans (WMPs)
  • Plan and implement new woodland creation projects
  • Lead Countryside Stewardship (CS HT) applications and manage grant‑funded works
  • Manage timber harvesting, marketing, restocking and ongoing maintenance programmes
  • Oversee forest and woodland certification compliance
  • Lead tree safety surveys and associated works programmes
  • Support delivery of BNG, carbon offsetting and Woodland Carbon Code schemes
  • Manage forestry mapping, GIS and data management
  • Delegate work effectively, supervising delivery against specification, timescales and budget
  • Act as a technical authority, combining specialist expertise with strong all‑round forestry knowledge
  • Influence and motivate others to achieve high professional standards
  • Build a strong external industry profile and professional network
  • Collaborate closely with Rural, Infrastructure and wider Savills teams to deliver integrated client solutions

With over 40 forestry consultants working across sixteen offices, Savills can claim one of the largest in-house forestry management teams in the UK.

Savills Forestry provide advice on any aspect of commercial forestry and woodland management, covering property assets of any scale, from large investment portfolios to small farm and estate woodlands.  The team has a deep knowledge base and is able to provide a clearly defined long-term career structure and excellent training opportunities for the right person.
