Call for new Chair & Secretary of our South West England Member Network

We are looking for applications for a new Chair and Secretary for our South West England Member Network.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Institute member based in South West England to review how CPD opportunities are being delivered in the area, with the potential for more online opportunities to complement the face-to-face events out in the woods. As well as boosting leadership and communication skills, these positions provide a great chance to raise awareness for the sector and promote forestry and arboriculture as a career path for young people.

Outgoing Secretary of the South West England Member Network, Julian Burchby MICFor, said:

“I was first approached about becoming the Secretary for the South West England Member Network back in 2018. In considering my decision, I really wasn’t sure what the role would involve and crucially with a relatively busy day job, how much time would be required. Having been in that role now for over six years I can say I have found the entire experience thoroughly rewarding, in terms of organising events and working with the other very committed committee members and Institute staff.

The level of time required to pull events together is manageable and tends to come in short bursts, therefore with good planning and delegation, wouldn’t impact on other professional and personal commitments. In summary it has been a great opportunity to put something back into the Institute and have the opportunity to get involved and see members engaging. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested.”

To apply, please send a letter of interest to the Institute’s Senior Education & Outreach Officer, Dr Rob Hawkins, by Friday 10 January 2025.
