Institute awards four Fellowships

We are pleased to announce that our Professional and Educational Standards Committee has approved the promotion of four new Fellows.

Jamie Gargett FICFor – Principal Arboricultural Officer, Havant Borough Council

Jamie has over 20 years’ experience in arboriculture and forestry, combining practical expertise with strategic leadership across both the private and public sectors. In senior local authority roles, he has championed tree-led planning policies, sustainable development and climate-resilient tree management. He is widely recognised for his expertise in tree risk management and subsidence, as well as his balanced, solutions-focused approach to complex challenges. Jamie is also committed to supporting the profession through training, CPD and promoting high professional standards.

Caroline Harrison FICFor – Technical Policy Manager, Institute of Chartered Foresters

Caroline has made a significant contribution to the forestry profession through leadership in policy, governance and stakeholder engagement. As Technical Policy Manager at the Institute, she leads work on technical guidance, consultation responses and professional development, ensuring the profession’s expertise informs national policy. Building on more than two decades of sector leadership, including senior roles at Confor, Caroline continues to strengthen professional standards through board and trustee positions, public engagement and collaboration across the forestry and timber sectors.

Julian Hollingdale FICFor – Forest Certification and Development Manager, Tilhill Forestry

Julian has dedicated 25 years to Tilhill Forestry, where he now serves as Forest Certification and Development Manager with national responsibility for the company’s certification schemes. A recognised leader in sustainable forest management, he also serves as a Director of UKWAS, helping to shape forestry standards across the UK. Julian has made a longstanding contribution to the Institute as a Professional Membership Entry Assessor and active Member Network committee member, supporting professional standards, mentoring future members and promoting the profession across the sector.

Liz Sharkey FICFor – Forestry Consultant, Sharkey Forestry Ltd

Liz has more than 22 years’ experience in forestry, progressing from forestry contractor to Managing Director of Sharkey Forestry Ltd, which she founded in 2014. An Institute member since 2015, she has led the delivery of woodland management, creation and consultancy projects for a diverse range of clients, bringing almost 5,800 hectares of woodland into active management. Alongside her consultancy work, Liz is a passionate advocate for professional development, mentoring, technical training and sector engagement, making a significant contribution through committee roles, events and outreach across the forestry profession.
