The Institute was delighted to award Technical membership status to six members who successfully undertook the TME process. The awards were granted by the authority of the Institute’s Examinations Board in October 2024.
Technical membership status was awarded to:
- Daniel Ayrton TechICFor – Network Rail
- Jake Burton TechICFor – Natural Resources Wales
- Christopher Callaghan TechICFor – Network Rail
- Alun Morgan TechICFor – Tilhill
- Christopher Rees TechICFor – Natural Resources Wales
- Jeni West TechICFor – Forestry and Land Scotland
Unlike Professional membership, Technical membership has no mandatory requirement for a degree-level qualification – applicants are assessed solely on their technical ability. Designed to confer a mark of practical experience and professional credibility on those who successfully achieve Technical Member status, Technical membership boosts respect and recognition from colleagues, peers, clients, and stakeholders, and also helps raise the professional profile of arboriculturists and foresters to the general public.
Louise Simpson, the Institute’s Executive Director, commented:
“Many congratulations to our six new Technical Members. Technical membership elevates the reputation of technical roles within our sector, and those who successfully undertake the TME process help raise professional standards and address gaps in the skills and professional development needs of this part of the sector.”
Geraint Richards MVO FICFor, President of the Institute, commented:
“Technical membership offers the opportunity for relevant members of the arboriculture and forestry workforce to hone their career paths with ongoing support from the Institute, allowing them to actively demonstrate the competence and professionalism they exhibit in their daily work. Congratulations to the six successful candidates, and we look forward to welcoming many new members looking to undertake the TME process.”
The Technical membership category was originally conceived by Past President of the Institute, Alastair Sandels FICFor, and was subsequently developed through the formation of a dedicated working group and ongoing consultations with many sector organisations. Technical membership has proven extremely popular, not only amongst individuals keen to demonstrate their professional competence, but also to employers eager to showcase the technical abilities and skills of their staff.
